December Update

This is the last post (sound of trumpets!) for 2024. A big thank you to all who have helped on the conservation/wildlife area over this year. A Happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year to you all, and all readers of this website.

The scything of the meadow area  in November was an extremely successful event on a lovely sunny morning. It is unusual to scythe meadows so late in the year, but because of the very wet and mild autumn, and in order to  arrest the advantage the more vigorous plants have gained during this period, we had to cut now. This should enable the wildflowers and other nectar rich plants to compete and flourish in the spring and early summer. Some photos  of the morning are shown below.

Next year will mark 20 years since the group started clearing and planting the Olivers Battery Conservation/Wildlife Area. We intend to commemorate the occasion by running a series of events. Please keep an eye on the website for details. As it is, a work party will be needed early in the near year to undertake some coppicing and other essential maintenance work. Again details will be posted on the website in the New Year
