Thank you to all those that took some time, not only on the night we undertook the Glow Worm survey, but had a look for the insects on subsequent evenings. The good news is they are present and glowing! The interesting result was that on different evenings there was some evidence that the glowing was seen in different sites, showing that different insects were present as the glowing females do not fly.
The thumbnail picture below shows the Ox-eyed daisies beginning to go over an be replaced by hogweed. We need to scythe the meadow in the next few weeks to prevent this rigorous plant seeding. A planned meadow cut is for Saturday 10th August, and if anybody can help clear the cuttings after the “Scythers” have done their work, please contact us (details on the front page)) and I will provide further details. For safety reasons I will need to know who will turn up.
