Having just walked around the Conservation/Wildlife area this morning, spring is beginning to show itself at last! The primroses are already flowering, and some lesser celandine are beginning to flower. In the area there is a small bunch of daffodils in bloom, possibly a remnant of some bulbs from discarded garden soil from the past. In addition an area of Spanish bluebells are emerging which will flower shortly, These non-native plants are well away from any area locally that has native bluebells, and believed not to pose any risk of hybridisation with our native bluebells.
It is good to walk the area this morning in sunshine and with a background of birdsong
Speaking of birdsong, the skylarks in Texas fields are making their presence felt, and likely to be trying to lay eggs in the fields shortly. These are ground nesting birds, and easily disturbed when nesting. These are become rarer in the countryside, and are red listed as birds of conservation concern, We are asking dog owners to be responsible and to avoid letting their dogs run freely where the notices indicate the presence of the birds.
